This pizzeria is located near to the centre and is often considered as one of the best pizzerias in the whole city. It may not be one of the most romantic and comfortable places, but you do get to sample authentic Neapolitan Pizzas and other typical dishes from southern Italy. It is especially frequented by Florentine people and the prices are fair. It is advised to book in advance.

Are you perhaps looking for a place away from the tourists, off the beaten track? A place loved by the Florentines? A place where pizzas and pastas are well made? At Pizzeria Firenze Nova we think you will find the answers. The pizzeria is about 10 minutes by taxi from the centre, but the atmosphere is very typical - it is almost as if you are in Naples. Prices are fair and if possible you should try to visit it here during your stay, but book in advance, to avoid disappointment.

This restaurant is considered by many to be one of the best in Italy. Here you will dine in magnificent Renaissance style. Located in the heart of Santa Croce, the dining room is adorned with fresh flowers in silver vases, vivid works of art and colourful beautiful frescoed ceilings. The menu is authentic and you will find pasta dishes that you will not find anywhere else, such as the sumptuous ignudi, ricotta and lobster dumplings. Seafood, beef, and game are all expertly and meticulously prepared and the wine cellar is stocked with almost 80,000 wines of excellent vintage that are ready to complement your meal. Reservations are required, as well as jacket and tie.

Little space is left on the walls, which are covered with interesting pieces of fine art. Meals offered on the menu provide a tasteful blend of flavours from both the Tuscany and Emilia-Romagna regions. Recommended choices from the menu include the lasagne, the fried cauliflower balls or the ribollita. Smart casual attire and a reservation in advance are recommended. Trattoria 4 Leoni. Via de dé Vellutini 1r / Piazza della Passera, Florence. Tel: 055 218 562.

This trattoria dates back to as early as the 1550s and can be found at the ancient Piazza della Passera, one of the most hidden corners of San Frediano in the heart of the historical centre. Typical Florentine recipes are on offer and the place is one the favourites of theatre and movie actors.

This is a good choice to experience real Tuscan food in an authentic setting. From the furniture to the wine and food, you will be surrounded by Tuscan life. A suggestion would be to try the mythical bistecca alla fiorentina (T bone steak). We recommend that you book in advance.

Again traditional Tuscan cuisine is the flavour of this charming trattoria. The nicely decorated is eclectic, combining typical Tuscan style with a typical colours and artwork. Featured dishes on the menu include fine quality beef, though vegetable plates are available for those with vegetarian preferences. Smart casual attire is recommended.

Here you can wine, as well as dine, in style - it is one of the most upmarket wineries in Florence, which features a vast array of local and regional wines from the Antinori wine makers of Florence. The ambience is elegant and the food exceptionally tasty. Sit at the bar, where you will receive excellent and competent service, or dine at a table near to the bar or in the cosy, intimate upper area. Do not be afraid to take your time with the wine menu, after all it is several pages long, and of course do not be embarrassed to ask about any particular wine.
