Florence is a beautiful, tranquil city, which is very
proud of its cultural heritage and history; truthfully visitors should
not expect a city with a thriving and dominant club scene, which may
be the case in many other European cities. However, it is a young, hip
and happening place with a large student population, who are adequately
and at times sophistically catered for.
Andromeda. Via dei Cimatori 13, 50123 Florence.
Tel: 055 292 002.
Andromeda has been attracting the masses for well over 20 years now.
It sports a sophisticated and elegant atmosphere. Dance music from RnB
to techno is spun by the DJ and the clientele are usually made up of
international students and the young Florentines in their 20s. Entrance:
circa 7.50 Euros to 10.00 Euros.
Universale Firenze. Via Pisana, 77r, 50100 Florence.
Tel: 055 221 122.
The Universale is one of the newest places in town - 1,600 square meters
(on three floors) dedicated to a global concept of entertainment: happy
hours, bar, wine bar, restaurant, concert hall. The club offers different
theme nights, such as Wednesdays Gaja, when international students get
in for free with proof of ID. You can find the club's full program on
their website (http://www.universalefirenze.it). Being one of the 'chicest'
places in town, remember that there is a door selection and their dress
code is enforced. Entrance: circa 18.00 Euros to 8.00 Euros. Closed:
Mondays and Tuesdays.
Rio Grande. Viale degli Olmi 1, Parco delle Cascine,
Florence. Tel: 055 331 371 / Fax 055 352 101.
Rio Grande is one of the largest clubs in the whole of Tuscany, spread
out over 4 dance floors, 2 restaurants (1 Spanish), a bar floor and
a privée terrace. The music can be rather good and varied; this
is complimented by an elegant atmosphere. The club is usually rather
busy, attracting locals, international students and tourists. Drinks
can be quite expensive but do not let that put you off, as it is well
worth a visit.
Meccano'. Viale degli Olmi 1, Florence 50100 Tel:
055 331 371.
Meccano' is arguably one of Florence's most popular nightclubs. Huge
and labyrinth-like, youthful crowds flock to its doors to hit 1 of the
6 bars, followed by 1 of the 4 dance floors. During the Summer, the
dance floor is often 'taken' outside, so you can party the night away
under the stars. The club regularly puts on theme nights, so do not
forget your 60s or 80s outfit. Entrance: circa 10.00 Euros to 15.00
Euros.
Central Park. Via Fosso Macinante 2, Florence.
Tel: 055 353 505.
Central Park is popular haunt for everyone who likes to party, especially
during the Summer, when its vast outdoor area, with bamboo and palm
trees, comes into its own. Music is eclectic within the dance music
scene, ranging from commercial house to Drum'n'Bass. The atmosphere
is enhanced with the club's great sound system with its big, heavy,
dirty bass. There are several bars to watch out for, which are scattered
all around the club.
Jaragua Discoteca Latina. Via Erta Canina 12/r,
50125 Florence. Tel: 055 234 3600.
A good and popular place in town to dance and listen to Latin music.
As can be expected from a Latin club, the atmosphere is very friendly,
warm and welcoming - the interior almost makes you believe that you
are in Latin America. However, Jaragua is not just any club, it is also
a Latin dance school, where you can learn Salsa, Merengue, Bachata,
Mambo, Chachacha, Rumba, Guaguanco, etc.
